Regenerative Medicine and Plastic Surgery
www.discountscat.com/product/12394272-regenerative-medicine-and-plastic-surgery.htmlThis book discusses the current research concepts and the emerging technologies in the field of stem cells and tissue engineering. It is the first authoritative reference documenting all the ways that plastic surgical practice and regenerative medicine science overlap or provide a road map for the future of both specialties. The Editors have provided a valuable service by gathering in one place the leading voices in these two fields in clear and concise manner. Divided into five parts, the book opens with a description of the elements of regenerative medicine including definitions, basic principles of soft and bone tissue regeneration, biomaterials and scaffolds. Current research concepts are explored in the second part of this book, for example mechanotransduction and the utility of extracellular vesicles. In the third part, the editors present the emerging technologies and highlight the novel perspectives on bionic reconstruction and biomimetics in surgery and regenerative medicine. Part four deals with translational aspects including practical information on moving scientific findings from bench to bedside. The final part then describes in detail applications in clinical plastic surgery. Written by leading experts this book is an invaluable resource for researchers, students, beginners and experienced clinicians in a range of specialties. "In your hands is a comprehensive encyclopedia of two rapidly converging fields. Drs Duscher and Shiffman have done an outstanding job of highlighting the interdependent relationship between plastic surgery and regenerative medicine. Ultimately, this is to the benefit of both fields." - Geoffrey C. Gurtner, MD, FACS Johnson and Johnson Distinguished Professor of Surgery Professor (by courtesy) of Bioengineering and Materials Science Inaugural Vice Chairman of Surgery for Innovation Stanford University School of Medicine
Plastic Surgery in the Sexually Handicapped
www.discountscat.com/product/12110321-plastic-surgery-in-the-sexually-handicapped.htmlSexual medicine is an interdisciplinary subject. Special knowledge of normal and disturbed sexuality is expected of general practitioners, gynecologists, dermato logists, urologists, specialists in internal medicine, neurologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists. Sexual dysfunctions may occur in connection with organic lesions or as psychosomatic phenomena. They are brought to the practicing physician's attention by the patient either directly or in the form of factitious symptoms. The disturbed sexual function generally causes suffering and so motivates the patient to consult a physician. Psychosomatic aspects are thus very much to the fore. In a significant number of cases, however the disturbances stem from a physical-functional handicap which not only affects the patient's general personality but also has a direct adverse effect on sexual function. The physical defect leads to disturbances of the body-image, and so can cause impairments in the sexual sphere both directly and indirectly. The diseases which result in sexual handicap and which can be treated by reconstructive surgery were examined and discussed at an international satellite symposium of experts on the occasion of the 8 th World Congress for Sexology in June 1987. The papers presented at this symposium have been collected and edited in this volume.
Fundoplication Surgery
www.discountscat.com/product/10157104-fundoplication-surgery.htmlThis book is intended for surgeons wanting to take their antireflux practice to an advanced level. It focuses on what experts do in real life, highlights pitfalls in skillful patient selection and fundoplication surgical technique, and addresses how to handle the âcurve ballsâ. It also provides recommendations on obtaining high patient satisfaction and building relationships with referring physicians. It is intended as an âexpertâ level manual to help readers move to the next level in their practices. From patient assessment and selection, anticipation of perioperative challenges, intraoperative problem-solving and technique, and postoperative management of side-effects, to reducing long-term recurrence rates and resumption of antisecretory medication, these expert authors dig deep to share the pearls of wisdom that make the difference between the average surgeon and the expert. Written by experts in the field, Fundoplication Surgery: A Clinical Guide to OptimizingResults confronts the issues that have hindered the broader use of fundoplication nationally and is a valuable resource and reference guide for addressing ambiguous symptoms and test results in oneâs practice.Â
Pelvic Surgery
www.discountscat.com/product/6108529-pelvic-surgery.html"Recent years have seen important advances in the technology and techniques available to surgeons performing gynecologic surgery as well as reconstructive of clinical pelvic procedures. These developments took place in a wide variety settings from regional teaching centers to private clinical facilities. In 1996, the leading investigators from around the world gathered to discuss the present status of pelvic surgery and adhesion prevention with a look toward the future of patient care. This volume contains the proceedings of that meeting: the Third Interna tional Congress on Pelvic Surgery and Adhesion Prevention. Each chapter in cludes the material presented at the congress as well as a timely update of the authors' latest research and clinical thinking. Presentation integrating basic and clinical science provide the basis for con sidering peritoneal repair after surgery including the interaction of growth factors and other biochemical messengers. Research has increased the understanding of mesothelial reepithelialization and has led to new surgical technologies to reduce adhesion fonnation. A state-of-the-art review of emerging surgical adjuvants for adhesion prevention is provided, including discussion of barriers, gels, and poly mers as well as ""designer"" drugs effective at modifying the peritoneal response to injury. Assessment of clinical outcome in a wide variety of gynecologic surgical procedures brings into focus the benefits available as a result of these new tech nologies."
Colorectal Surgery
www.discountscat.com/product/4288281-colorectal-surgery.htmlColorectal Surgery: Living Pathology in the Operating Room is two books in one. First, it is an atlas in the classic definition: each chapter is a two-page spread discussing one case. Functionally, each chapter is a case study with both the surgical and pathological perspectives beautifully rendered and fully explained. Visually, every chapter presents the reader with operative and/or diagnostic photos, and anatomic line drawings by the author. The text, more extensive than in many atlases, provides a concise yet complete operative record: patient history/work up, anatomic anomalies, the procedure itself, pathologic findings, and follow up. Key teaching points emphasize the most important and unique aspects of every case. Residents, fellows, and even seasoned practitioners will gain valuable diagnostic and therapeutic insights from this material. The case study presentation provides an excellent review tool for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery exam.
